Class Placement Procedures

Gant Class Placement Protocol Class Rosters

In May/June of each year, we initiate the process of creating class rosters for the upcoming school year. We do this by actively involving the students’ current teachers who carefully evaluate and share with the administrative team various data for each child, including their learning style, social-emotional needs, academic profile, specialized program requirements, and more.

Our primary objective is to establish fair and well-balanced classroom rosters, fostering the best possible learning environment for all students. Once all information, data and recommendations from teachers are gathered, the principal and counselor conduct a thorough review and add any data or information we might be privy to about particular students.

Over the summer and into late August, adjustments are made based on changes in enrollment. Ongoing analysis throughout the process ensures that class rosters are balanced and that equity is maintained.

Our commitment is to provide your child with an inclusive and nurturing educational experience. We take the class placement process seriously in order to offer the best possible educational opportunities for all students.

Parent/Guardian Involvement in the Class Placement Process

While teachers have varying styles and techniques for delivering academic content, all are highly qualified to teach in LBUSD and follow the scope and sequence for each subject to ensure all students learn the required grade-level material. Further, every teacher has been trained in using GATE strategies and Gant is considered a whole school GATE model. Therefore, requests for specific teachers or classrooms are not part of our placement process. We appreciate your partnership and understand that parents/guardians may have valuable insights to share about their child(ren).

If there are specific details or considerations (other than teacher requests) that you would like us to be aware of during the class placement process, we welcome you to share that information via email with the current teacher, the counselor and the principal. Your input will be taken into account as we strive to support each child’s educational experience
